The Department of Defense said Naval Aircrewman (Helicopter) Second Class Joseph P. Fitzmorris, 31, of Ruston was one of two sailors declared dead as a result of the crash on Thursday.
Senior Chief Aviation Warfare Systems Operator Sean P. Sullivan, 40, of St. Louis, Mo., was also declared deceased following an extensive search of the wreckage and the surrounding areas of the crash.
Press reports said three other crew members aboard their MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopter survived. The helicopter was assigned to the Melicopter Mine Countermeasure Squadron 15. It went down about 60 miles southwest of Muscat, Oman.
