The event, that will end today, is organised by the UAE journalists in association with the Kuwaiti Journalists Association and the Dubai Press Club in celebration of the 52nd Kuwaiti National Day and the 22nd Kuwait Liberation Day.

Shaikh Maktoum toured an exhibition held at the sideline of the event to reflect the close relationship between the two brotherly countries, which saw the participation of several Kuwaiti government entities, spanning the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Endowment, Kuwait News Agency, and Kuwait University. He also attended a show called ‘A dedication from Kuwaiti hearts to Emirati brothers’, which depicted a long history of the close relationship between the UAE and Kuwait, particularly at the time of the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Faisal Al Qanaei, Secretary-General of the Kuwaiti Journalists Association, said: “There is a permanent communication and coordination between the two associations, particularly in the meetings of the International Journalists Federation, and the Asian Federation for Sports Press.”

Al Qanaei, said there is an intense struggle between national and professional responsibilities.

“The national responsibility sets the guidelines for journalists to follow and that balance should be set with professional responsibility without imposing restrictions.”

He said there are some studies in Kuwait about a media code of ethics which all journalists and media people should observe, however, some journalists and newspapers are opposed to the same.

“They think that the code is a kind of restriction on press, although unlimited press freedom is the major ‘enemy’ of media. There is no country without some principles and benchmarks that media should comply with for the benefit of all concerned.”

The two-day function saw the presence of Mohammed Yusuf, Chairman of the UAE Journalists Association, as well as the chairmen of the Journalists associations in the Gulf, the editors of local and gulf newspapers, and members of the UAE Journalists Association.
