‘Mind your language’ warning to Bahraini MPs

He denounced as "unacceptable" the misuse of freedom of speech to vilify or debase others and called for ethical dialogue between parliament and the government.

"Decent language and lofty practices emanating from Bahrainis’ values are testimony that our democracy has really matured," he said as he visited the National Assembly complex ,at the invitation of Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh.

The Premier warned against "irresponsible and abusive words", saying they compromised co-operation.

"Far from vindicating one’s stance, abusive language will only make problems harder to solve," he said. "We have all chosen democracy, confident that dialogue and free opinion will only be exercised in the interest of the nation.

Deputies who sit under the dome of the parliament have the honour to represent people and serve the nation. Hence the need to live up to people’s expectations, further anchor the democratic march and avoid any abusive language," said the Premier.

Mr Al Saleh hosted a lunch banquet in the Premier’s honour, which was also attended by parliament chairman Khalifa Al Dhahrani.
