The legal period of appeal against candidates was from August 21 to 23. The Committees of the Emirates have not received any objection to the candidates whose names are stated on the NEC website.
Tariq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council, Member of the National Election Committee and Chairman of the Election Management Committee, said as per the NEC’s defined rules and approved documents for appeal for every member in the NEC, it was allowed to produce appeal application against the candidacy of any candidate registered in the preliminary list of FNC elections.
If a member of the committee appeals against any candidate, he/she has to pay Dh3,000, Lootah added.
The appeal rights are based on instructions of the Executive Council, which gives rights to the Election Committee members to appeal for a candidate for certain acceptable reasons.
As per the NEC rules, the appeal against any candidate could be raised in case of failure to meeting any constitutional norms for being a candidate, which are mentioned under the Article No 70 of the Constitution or failure to fulfilling requirements, described by the Executive Election Committee.
The Committees of the Emirates opened the door to receive appeals against candidates whose names were published previously in various media and are available on the website of the NEC.
The NEC announced the preliminary list of candidates on August 20, which comprised 469 candidates from across the emirates. The NEC will announce the final list of candidates on August 28, Lootah said.
The election campaigns will begin from September 4 until September 21, while polling will be held on September 24 for a day from 8am to 7pm.
The NEC has provided all kinds of details on its website and through its regular introductory and awareness campaigns across the country. It has also given detailed demonstration of election campaigns in the country and defined norms for voters and candidates.
