Al-Thani said at the inaugration of a two-day regional workshop discussing international cooperation to combat terrorism, "in light of the growing power of terrorist organizations, and the strengthen of their activities and expansion (cross-border to regional countries) it has become difficult for any single nation, regardless of the available means and resources to adequately combat this growing terrorist activity." Cooperative efforts from different regional and international countries is the only way to combat terrorism, he added.

 

He added, that the selection of the workshop’s theme came to complete what topics were covered during previous workshops hosted during the past four years, and the affirmation that the security of each country in the world, is linked to global security.

 


He stressed that the agenda of the workshop is full with different policies and issues that are vital to collect data on terrorism.

 

Moreover, the data collection helps the development of criminal justice systems, as well as the role of the Interpol in the promotion of measures to combat terrorism at the international level.

 

The Regional Expert United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Ihab El-Minabbawy praised the efforts of the GCC countries, and their efforts in cooperatinig to combat such phenonmenon.
He stressed the importance of international cooperation to combat terrorism, considering it a criminal-global phenonmenon.

 

He also displayed the effects of terrorism in states where it threatens the democracy, and regional security.

 

The workshop is organized by the National committee for terrorism combat, in coordination with UNODC.
