He said that reconciliation efforts led by the OIC will incorporate disputing parties, including the Islamic Armed Group, one of the main forces involved in the conflict.
“Our reconciliation efforts will not succeed unless all the parties sit together and discuss ways to end violence and killing in Mali.”
Ihsanuglu was speaking at the opening of the first ministerial meeting on Mali, where he urged member states to donate generously at the International Conference for Donors for Mali, which took place in Brussels yesterday.
Ihsanuglu said the OIC is ready to contribute to an overall plan that resulted from a high-level meeting at the UN last September.
He said that the situation in Mali is still far from being back to normal, but added that calm will prevail sooner if the international community liaises with authorities in Mali.
Ihsanuglu said that the objectives of the transitional phase in Mali can be achieved by dialogue and internal reconciliation.
He urged authorities in Mali to speed up and expand the dialogue process through the initiative made by the Economic Community Of West-African States (ECOWAS).
