The pioneering project, called ‘I am an Entrepreneur’, will target students in all governorates and regions of the country, encouraging them to consider the option of starting their own businesses by presenting a number of success stories of young entrepreneurs who have benefited from the ‘Intilaaqah’ programme.

Intilaaqah is regarded as one of the breakthrough social investment projects of Shell in Oman, and seeks to encourage young Omanis to establish their own business units.

The new scheme for schools is a joint venture between the Ministry of Education and Shell Development Oman (SDO), for which the agreement was concluded here on Saturday.

Signing for the ministry was Under-secretary for Educational Planning and Human Resources Development Saud bin Salim Al Balushi and for Hilal bin Yahya al Mawali, ExternalAffairs Manager.

Ministry and SDO officials said the campaign would identify characteristics that students needed to become successful owner-manager, qualities that they must possess and urge students to think creatively about having their own businesses as an option.

It will target approximately 3,000 10th and 11th grade students in various regions who were selected by the ministry’s specialists. The initiative will include several activities, including a lecture on entrepreneurship, meeting with one of the pioneers to talk about his or her experience, in addition to a documentary film about the success stories of young Omanis who have benefited from the programme.

Students will also participate in a competition similar to the campaign that aims to encourage them to develop their research and encourage them to expand their knowledge in entrepreneurship and existing institutions to encourage entrepreneurs.

Additionally, vocational guidance specialists and administrators will be trained to enable them to spread the idea among students from other schools.
