The concerned government department should provide statistics of expatriates in violation of the Labour Law, according to a Council of Ministers statement carried by the government-owned Oman News Agency (ONA.)
The Ministers also stressed the importance of enforcing the laws that deal with labour violators.
They have called for the recruitment process for expatriates to be streamlined to maintain the balance between expatriates and the national workforce. Ministers have asked government departments to “evaluate and regularise the records on expatriates and prepare electronic databases.”
The Council has also instructed departments to conduct field surveys to ensure that expatriates are engaged in the type of job that they are licensed for.
“The departments should also submit proposals on regulations for issuing new permits for recruiting expatriates or granting new commercial licences or change of activity or the type of companies that should be supported either for the employment of Omanis or encouraging Omanis to set up new ventures.”
The Council also reviewed the proposals of the meeting between the deputy prime minister for the Council of Ministers and top businessmen in the private sector.
The meeting aimed to support the channels to identify and address the challenges facing the private sector.
“These measures will be taken while ensuring the stability of the national manpower in its establishments,” the statement by the Council reiterated.
A joint meeting was also held between the Council of Ministers and businessmen to boost communication between the government and the private sector. The meeting called for a bigger role by the private sector in national development.
Among other decisions, the council approved the issue of a social insurance system for Omanis who have their own projects, entrepreneurs and their equivalents.
