"Military relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman have been on the basis of brotherhood and dignity in the past decades," Captain Mohammad Reza Pourjasem said at a function held to commemorate Iran’s National Armed Forces Day, which is observed on April 18 every year.  The ceremony, which was held at the Iranian Embassy, was attended by Iranian Ambassador Ali Akbar Sibeveih and a number of Iranian and Omani officials.
In his speech, Pourjasem said that the establishment of a joint military committee, joint naval drills, the exchange of military cadets, and the exchange of visits by military officials show the strong military relationship between the two countries.
The expansion of these ties will help strengthen security in the region, he said.
"Fortunately, the intention of the leaders of both the countries is to maintain friendly relations."
Pourjasem also hailed Iran’s military might and said the armed forces in Iran are defending the independence and territorial integrity of the country without reliance on other countries.
Iran and Oman recently held a joint rescue and relief naval drill in the Sea of Oman. The two countries have held several joint naval manoeuvres with the aim of enhancing their preparedness for relief and rescue operations and increasing regional naval cooperation. Meanwhile, Iran’s 29th naval fleet of warships docked at the Muscat port yesterday with the aim of strengthening naval ties between the two nations and conveying the message of peace to the neighbouring countries. The fleet is expected to stay in Muscat for three days.
