They held talks with the Central Municipal Council and MPs on Friday and are now hoping for a meeting with deputy governor Mubarak Al Fadhel to discuss the issue.
"We have not been told anything, but we have a strong feeling that our demands will be met by hopefully next week," said representative Jaffar Ali yesterday.
"Our methods are peaceful and we are very far from any violent acts, because we are only asking for houses."
All the families taking part in the vigil live in the Central Governorate’s sixth constituency.
They have formed a Housing Civil Committee to lobby authorities on residents’ behalf.
The new housing project is located in Nuwaidrat, but the vigil started after MPs from other areas demanded some of the houses be allocated to people from their constituencies.
Residents living in constituency six claim they have already sold their old properties and land after being promised new houses.
They want 50 per cent of the project to be allocated to Nuwaidrat residents and the rest to the other three surrounding villages.
