Qatar and China to boost energy ties

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and visiting Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani attended the signing ceremony after their meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Hailing China-Qatar relations, the People’s Daily Online quoted Wen as saying “the two nations in recent years have increased mutual political trust and common interests and enjoyed a solid foundation for expanding bilateral win-win co-operation.”

At the outset of the meeting HE the prime minister conveyed greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and their wishes to Chinese President Hu Jintao and their wishes of further progress and prosperity to the Chinese people.

For his part, the Chinese prime minister conveyed Hu’s greetings and wishes of good health to HH the emir and HH the heir apparent and further progress and prosperity to the Qatari people.

The meeting was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying HE the prime minister.

On the Chinese side, the meeting was attended by Assistant Foreign Minister Shen Guofang and Director of the National Energy Administration, Vice-Minister of the State Development and Reform Department Zhang Guobao.

China will work with Qatar to seize the opportunity to cope with the international financial crisis and actively advance co-operation in energy, finance and infrastructure construction, Wen said.

“This will help promote economic growth in the two nations and push forward the bilateral friendship,” the premier said.
