The State of Qatar has also confirmed the inviolability of the inalienable rights of the member states parties’ access to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and called in this context to solve the dispute over Iran’s nuclear file via diplomatic channels and peaceful means in accordance with the U.N. Charter and the principles of international law.

This came in a speech H.E. Foreign Minister’ Assistant for Follow Up Affairs Mohamad bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi delivered at the opening ceremony of the two-day International Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation which kicked off in Tehran on Saturday with the participation of over 60 world countries.

”Disarmament of nuclear weapons is now the top priority of the international community but there are certain countries which are opposed to implementation of NPT on disarmament of nuclear weapons, Al-Rumaihi said and invited other countries which have not signed NPT protocol to joint it as soon as possible.

He expressed the hope that the efforts of international community for non-proliferation of nuclear weapons put an end to global nuclear arms race.

The Qatari senior official called for adopting faithful and practical positions on part of all countries to eventually rid of the nuclear stockpiles which is a substantial demand and one of the main pillars of the NPT and welcomed the proposal of the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in this respect.
