Talking to Al Jazeera Channel hours before the opening of the 30th GCC Summit in Kuwait last evening, the Prime Minister said: “The State of Qatar always welcomes the participation of all brothers in GCC, and of Kingdom of Bahrain in particular. It is time for Bahrain to take its turn and Qatar respects its right for nominating to the GCC secretary general’s position.”
“The rumours that have surfaced on the issue are baseless,” he said. “There are some observations and we have discussed them with our brothers in Bahrain, but they have nothing to do with the right of Bahrain to nominate to the position of the GCC secretary-general,” the Premier added.
He added that Qatar had been advocating that appointment to the position be on a rotational basis.
