HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Sheikha Ghalia bint Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, who is also the secretary general of the Supreme Council for Health, underlined the need to take precautionary measures when travelling to areas hit by the disease.

The minister’s call for the emergency meeting came after consultations with officials at the Communicable Diseases Department at the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).

The minister also called for alert at the state’s ports and for stepping-up “ the competency of the airport clinic to make necessary check-ups on passengers suspected of having the symptoms of the disease”, a statement issued by the Public Health Ministry said.

Meanwhile, Mexico said the new flu virus had killed up to 149 people and ordered all schools to close across the country as the disease spread in the US, Canada and Europe.
