Qatar committed to giving aid for Palestinians, says Minister

Addressing a press conference at the end of the closing session of the Conference on Financing Development to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, the Minister said Qatar’s continuing to provide assistance to the Palestinian people stemmed from the wise policy of the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the state’s principle to this effect. He said: “We in Qatar are adhering to our principle which we have learned from the Emir. It is a principle and we had to abide by and press ahead with our commitments.”

Asked whether Qatar was playing any role to settle the current crisis between the Palestinian factions, the Minister said an Arab committee including Qatar will head to the Palestinian territories to find a solution to the crisis, adding the Arab League’s permanent delegate met yesterday in Cairo to study the stance of the Palestinian brethren towards this committee.

The Minister said Qatar was ready to play its role in order to unify their stance. He voiced Qatar’s pain over the differences between the Palestinians, stressing that the current stage represented a challenge requiring unification of stances and pooling of ranks.
