Qatar, India set to boost bilateral ties

“The ties between the two countries have always been excellent. However, after Eid, we will have lots of movements between the countries in the diplomatic levels. We are expecting a visit by a leading Minister of State from the central government to help boost the tolds,” she told The Peninsula.

One of the main aims through the visit would be to promote tourism in India. “India is a vast country with cultures and tradition that vary form place to place. So we hope to bring the different tourist, historical and heritage sites of India to the people here. Our ties with the Arab world have been going on for centuries.

Many people say that their parents, grandparents or their forefathers have lived and seen the rich culture of India.

However, the young generation here has not been to India. Through this tourism we aim to bring the beauty of India to the people here.”

Another major activity would be promoting medical tourism to India. The country’s medical roots go back to the centuries and much of the western world are no utilizing the cheap but effective medical treatment in India.

“Ayurveda and other traditional medical treatments are bringing many people to India. But people here do not know about the benefits of these treatments and the miracles it can do. Treatment in India is cheap and effective,” she said.

To bring India to all the people in Qatar, the envoy plans to have a cultural event showcasing the different arts of the country.

“We do have lots of Indian cultural shows here. But it is resticted to a community of organisation. Rarely do people from other countries witness these. So we hope to bring in some of the finest talents of India and show the arts to the world,” the ambassador added.

Indian Embassy will celebrate Independence Day with an official flag hosting ceremony, followed by a reception, at the Indian Cultural Centre, Al Hilal area, at 8am on August 15.

The students of Indian schools will participate by singing the National Anthem and patriotic songs.
