Al-Marri said the move reflected Qatar’s position at the regional and international arena.
Electing Qatar as a member of the commission proved the significance Doha attaches to Human rights issues, Al-Marri told the official Qatar News Agency (QNA).
The Qatari official described human rights issues in Qatar as excellent, noting several government bodies and institutions have been set up to follow up human right issues in the country.
Established in 2005 the UN High Commissioner is mandated to promote and protect the enjoyment and full realization, by all people, of all rights established in the Charter of the United Nations and in international human rights laws and treaties.
