“Our female students are keen to go in for internship at international law firms here. They feel happy and secure working with these firms, aside from gaining good experience,” Dr Sheikha bint Jabor Al Thani, Vice-President of Qatar University, told The Peninsula yesterday.

She was one of the guests at an event hosted by the famous US law firm Patton Boggs LLP to mark the inauguration of its new office premises in Dafna.

According to Sheikha, since the Qatari constitution specifies that the language of the judiciary and legal circles should be national, most subjects at the Law College are taught in Arabic. However, to help students get exposure to international law and the legal environment, some 35 percent subjects are taught in English.

Sheikha introduced to media persons at the Patton Boggs’ event one of the firm’s lawyer-employees, Salman Ansari, who was from Qatar University’s Law College. The firm has three Qatari lawyers on its rolls.
