“I think we should help (the opposition) by arming them so as to defend themselves. The Arab countries should do that through an Arab and international assembly,” the Prime Minister said.
In a joint press conference with Norway’s Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg in Oslo, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim said that they had discussed bilateral relations in all fields, besides the situation in the Middle East, particularly in Syria.
He stressed that the UN should shoulder the responsibility towards the situation in Syria by working to end the violence there, stressing the necessity to work on the protection of the Syrian people.
Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim urged the Syrian government to take a decision to end the killings and achieve peace, adding that the Friends of Syria meeting held recently in Tunisia and the next one due to be held in Turkey were both meant to help the Syrian people and stop the bloodshed.
“We want to help our friends also in this direction,” the Prime Minister said.
“The Syrian people must choose what they want in their country. We can’t stand idly by as the Syrian people get killed every day without helping them with food and medicine.”
