Asked if the Kingdom would take any measures to protect the investments of the Saudis affected by the present world economic crisis, Sultan responded: “This is an international issue that does not concern us alone. However, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has entrusted a number of responsible agencies to make in-depth studies on how we can deal with this situation. If Allah wills matters will improve.”
Prince Sultan said the Kingdom would reopen its mission in Baghdad shortly.
During his visit to the Eastern Province, the crown prince conveyed Eid greetings of King Abdullah to the personnel of various wings of the defense forces based in the region.
Prince Sultan underscored the vital role played by Saudi Arabian armed forces in maintaining the economic stability in the world. “You should know that while you defend the soil of your country you are in fact maintaining the stability of international economy. The Kingdom is keen on the stability, growth and progress of every country in the world with balanced policies, pragmatic decisions, making sustained calls to conflicting parties to unite and abandon schism and violence so that deprived rights are reinstated and the world peace achieved,” Prince Sultan said while addressing the servicemen.
Prince Sultan yesterday opened the Shield of Nation Exhibition organized by the Eastern Region Command at King Fahd Military City. He stressed the importance of protecting the vital installations in the country.
On Tuesday, Prince Sultan donated about SR1.5 million to the beneficiaries of the Prince Muhammad bin Fahd Charity Housing Project in Dammam.
Each family that was allocated an apartment in housing project is entitled to receive SR10,000 from the donation. Prince Sultan made the gift during a visit to the housing project comprising 148 units built on a 40,000-square meter area.
Prince Sultan was accompanied by Eastern Province Gov. Prince Muhammad bin Fahd. “One hundred and thirty-four houses have been allocated to orphans, widows and other under-privileged citizens,” said Abdullah Al-Qadi, secretary-general of the Al-Birr Society of the Eastern Province, in a statement on Tuesday.
The SR60 million charity project included a 2,854-square meter mosque, a kindergarten, a health center, green areas, a shopping center and a water desalination plant.
The Dammam project is the first phase of the Prince Muhammad bin Fahd Housing Project, which includes similar housing complexes in Al-Wosae, Hafr Al-Baten, Noaeria, Qurayat Al-Olaya, Ahsa, Abqaiq, Anak and Awamiyah.
Prince Sultan was scheduled to inaugurate the Prince Fahd bin Muhammad University in Alkhobar last night. Commenting on the new SR450 million university, Prince Muhammad said, “We have been striving to make the new university a model institution of higher education in every respect — in terms of its capabilities, buildings and syllabus. We sought the help of 32 American universities to make it a landmark in the field of education in the Eastern Province in particular and in the Kingdom in general.”
