Saudis who return from ‘Gitmo,’ join Al-Qaeda have false beliefs: Saudi official

The source was quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying these Saudis which made their presence felt in one of the neighboring countries are attempting to revive corruption targeting Saudi people and the country’s stability.

The source noted that those who returned would like to cause corruption which gives justification for the continuation of such detention centers abroad and reduces the chances of the return for the rest of the detainees.

Earlier, media outlets had reported that Saudis who had returned from Guantanamo and rejoined Al-Qaeda abroad. They rejoined Al-Qaeda following their release by the Saudi Interior ministry who carried out a rehabilitation program for returnees from Guantanamo.

The official said nine of those who returned from Guantanamo have already participated in similar programs, stressing that this does not apply to the majority of those who attended these programs and resumed their normal lives.

The source added that some of them voluntarily contributed to the activities of these programs to help others return to normal life.
