Statement of 135 Shiites Rejecting the Accusations of Ministry of Interior

Around 135 of Shiite religious leaders and figures in AlAhssa expressed their rejection to the accusations of the Saudi Ministry of Interior over the involvement of sixteen Shiites as well as two people from other states in a spy network working for the interest of “another state”.

AlAhssa’s figures, in their statement, indicated that they “seriously reject such accusations which had offended the detainees and harmed them and their families morally and psychologically”.

They confirmed that “the detainees are good citizens who are efficient and have respected social status. They are known for their honesty, loyalty to their nation”, and demanded “releasing them and withdrawing the charges” against them.

The signatories showed their rejection to the exploitation of “the card of sectarianism in clearing foreign, political disputes, or in distracting the public from demanding reforms and rights”, and ensured that their affiliation is to this nation and their commitment to its unity.

They denounced the attack of some newspapers’ writers accusing figures, who had defended the detainees, of betrayal and recklessness, and demanded the authorities to end such offensive writings by taking the necessary measures.

They, also, called for working urgently on meeting all of the citizens’ reformative and rights demands, and for addressing all outstanding issues.

It is important to mention that this statement is the second on a week by Shiite notables on rejecting the MOI’s accusations. Shiites, on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, had issued a statement on the same context rejecting the MOI’s allegations and describing them as “suspicious”.

Text of the Statement

Praise be to Allah; the lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon Prophet Mohammad; the Seal of the Prophets and Chief of the Messengers, his virtuous family and his chosen companions.

The Almighty Allah said: “Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality, bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded”.

We are sad to hear about detaining a group of Shiite citizens, and it hurts so much to be informed about the statement of official spokesman in the Ministry of Interior on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, as it described them as a spying network.

As we seriously reject such accusations which had offended the detainees and harmed them, their families and us morally and psychologically, we declare the following:

First, we confirm that the detainees are good citizens who are efficient and have respected social status. They are known for their honesty, loyalty to their nation and devotion to serve its people, and what they have been accused with is totally contrary to the reality.

Second, we demand releasing them and withdrawing the charges as well as releasing all the innocent detainees of citizens; Sunnis and Shiites.

Third, we completely reject exploiting the card of sectarianism in clearing foreign, political disputes, or in distracting the public from demanding reforms and rights.

Fourth, we ensure our affiliation to this nation and our commitment for its unity, and refuse the accusations of being allied to states other than this one.

Fifth, we denounce the attack of media on which some newspapers’ writers accused the figures, who had defended the detainees, of betrayal and recklessness and described them as opportunistic. We demand authorities to end such offensive writings and to take the necessary measures against who is doing it.

Sixth, we recommend authorities to hasten in meeting all reformative and rights demands which were presented by the citizens of this nation; whether Sunnis or Shiites, and to address all outstanding issues that caused frustrations, demonstrations and criticisms.

We ask the Almighty Allah to protect our precious nation and prevent it from all seditions, and to help all of us on achieving stability and reformation and on preserving the unity of its people.
