I think the tension between the US and Saudi Arabia will show itself more in the actions of Saudi Arabia. When the Saudis realized that the US would not intervene in Syria, they began to follow a different policy on Syria than they had shared with the US. This could change the course of events in the Syrian war. At the end of September, a coalition was established in Syria with the support of the Saudis called the Army of Islam. There are no groups linked to al-Qaeda in this coalition. The Saudis plan to train this dissident group in Jordan to fight Assad and to prevent groups linked with al-Qaeda from getting stronger. Saudi Arabia is willing to spend millions of dollars on these two aims.
