UAE anoints envoy to UN nuclear body

"The UAE has nominated Hamad Al Kaabi as ambassador to the IAEA as part of its declared intention to launch a nuclear programme for power generation," the official said, requesting anonymity.

Kaabi had been chosen as the UAE’s pointman on nuclear energy issues in April when Abu Dhabi unveiled a white paper in which it made clear it would import enriched uranium for any reactor it builds, distancing itself from the more controversial aspects of neighbouring Iran’s nuclear programme. Abu Dhabi has inked nuclear energy cooperation deals with both the United States and France.
