The UAE and Egypt yesterday concluded joint military exercises involving land, sea and air forces. The drills were aimed at improving combat effectiveness and the capability of both nations to tackle various scenarios that call for a high level of tactical and operational preparedness.
The exercises also seek to highlight historical and strategic relations between the two countries besides strengthening cooperation and sharing knowledge and expertise in the military domain.
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Field Marshal Abdul Fattah Al Sissi, Egypt’s Defence Minister, attended the closing ceremony of the joint military exercise.
Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Prince Salman Bin Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Defence, and other senior officials from both sides, were also present.
Shaikh Mohammad, along with his entourage, were briefed on the three-phase exercise involving the arrival of Egyptian troops in the UAE, professional training programmes and the final practical phase.
The exercises come as part of a series of joint military drills conducted by the two countries.
The drills involve planning, training, implementation and management of military operations as well as activating standard procedures for operational planning.
Aerial manoeuvres
The air force units of the UAE and Egypt engaged in aerial manoeuvres involving jet fighters such as F16s and Mirage 2000s as well as C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft.
The exercises, which were conducted with live ammunition, reflect the high level of coordination and the skills of armed forces on both sides to respond to challenges.
At the conclusion of the exercise, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed and Field Marshal Al Sissi extended a military salute to officers, staff and personnel participating in the exercises.
