UAE health officials have said the country is cholera-free, following a reported case of the disease in Oman.

The Ministry of Health is continuing to communicate with the World Health Organisation about communicable diseases, including cholera, said Dr Abdulrahman Al Rand, the ministry’s assistant undersecretary for health centres and clinics.

Cholera has spread in some countries, such as Iraq and Tanzania, but no cases in the UAE have been reported, and the spread of the disease is negligible in the countries where it has emerged, Dr Al Rand told Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National

Oman’s ministry of health has urged people to take caution following the case of an Omani woman who was diagnosed with cholera after a recent visit to Iraq. She is being treated and is in stable condition, the Times of Oman has reported.
