UAE ministry not yet ready on minimum wage for workers

“Let’s look at the situation we have today and see if there is something that can be done by the ministry,” he replied to a suggestion made during the forum.

The UAE government had earlier acknowledged the importance of fixing setting a minimum wage for all workers, particularly bluecollar workers and domestic helpers. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Mohammed Anwar Gargash had said last year that there is a need to have a debate on the minimum wage. He said the ministry is working on the mechanism to enforce the e-payment of workers’ salaries.

“It is difficult to schedule the enforcement of the new payment process, particularly with around 280,000 companies in the country,” he said, and added that the ministry is collaborating with the Ministries of Interior and Finance in this regard.
