The UAE’s policy in this respect is based on the principles of peace, justice, equality and freedom for all people across the world along with realising security, stability and economic prosperity in “our Arab Region”, Shaikh Mohammed said during a meeting with visiting Libyan Prime Minister Dr Ali Zidan at Zabeel Palace.

Shaikh Mohammed and Dr Zidan reviewed bilateral ties and took stock of the current events in the Arab world, including the political changes in Libya.

Dr Zidan briefed Shaikh Mohammed on the political and economic transformation Libya is currently undergoing under the new era, stressing that his country was planning to rebuild the country in urban, educational, social and economic sectors.

He said Libya was willing to draw lessons from the UAE’s development model and experiment, especially in infrastructure, real estate, trade, security, ports, education and tourism. He said the Libyan government and people are grateful to Shaikh Mohammed and the UAE leadership for the support and assistance they extended to the Libyan people during their revolution for freedom and development.

Present at the meeting were Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; Reem Ibrahim Al Hashimi, Minister of State; Mohamed Abdulaziz, Libyan Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; and Dr Aref Al Nayed, Libyan Ambassador to the UAE; and senior officials from both sides attended the meeting.

Earlier in the day, General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received Dr Zidan at the Emirates Palace in the Capital.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed welcomed Dr Zidan and expressed the hope that his visit will contribute to expanding prospects of cooperation and strengthen projects to achieve the aspirations of the two countries.

Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also attended the meeting, which discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop them to the advantage of the two sisterly countries.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed expressed the hope that the transitional period in Libya will meet the aspirations of the people for more stability and security so as to continue progress and development, stressing that the UAE has an open door for the Libyans to exchange expertise and establish partnerships and to benefit from the Emirati developmental experience. This, he said, would contribute to a steady building of institutions and to achieving a comprehensive renaissance, with consequent benefits for national reconciliation.

On his part, the Libyan prime minister hailed the vision of the late Shaikh Zayed, founder of the UAE, and his efforts in building a modern and developed state which has all the factors of growth and sustainable development. He cited the prestigious stature and good reputation that the UAE has regionally and internationally, due to the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his vision in developing the human resources to continue the march of development and progress.

He expressed his gratitude for the UAE policies towards Libya and its people, praising the humanitarian and development assistance provided by the UAE.
