Dr Chowdhury is also in charge of the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry.

Dr. Chowdhury discussed various labour issues with UAE Labour Minister Dr Ali bin Abdullah Al Kaabi during the Ministerial Consultations on Overseas Employment and Contractual Labour for Countries of Origin in Asia: Abu Dhabi Dialogue.

“Dr Al Kaabi has assured that the UAE would assist the Bangladeshi Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment in setting up an Internet technology system to assist the efficient dispatch of workers to the UAE,” Dr Chowdhury added.

He said, “We have also decided to set up a Joint Committee to implement the MoU which was signed in Dhaka during the recent visit of the UAE Labour Minister to Bangladesh.”

According to the embassy statistics, “The UAE hosts over 600,000 Bangladeshi workers and an average of 20,000 are still coming over here every month.”

“We are doing the best to take advantage of this huge market. If we can upgrade our skills, we can move higher in the quality employment scale,” he pointed out.
