The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Anwar Gargash, and the US Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, signed the Memorandum of Understanding in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Commenting on it, Dr Gargash said, “It is an excellent platform for the UAE entities to benefit from the technical competence and expertise possessed by the Department of Energy (DoE).”
The Implementing Arrangement, as it is called, creates a framework by which the US Department of Energy, through its National Nuclear Security Administration, will offer cooperation.
“This arrangement is part of the Obama administration’s commitment to ensuring peaceful nuclear power is an important part of the global energy mix,” Chu said.
The arrangement allows for the exchange of technical information, training of personnel, access to US DoE laboratories, workshops and other joint activities to assist UAE entities in their peaceful nuclear programme.
