"We will be renewing the mandate. We don’t envisage a significant change to the mandate. But there will be reference to the resolution that was adopted last week (on Thursday) and the new role for UNAMI in Iraq-Kuwait relations," she told a press conference in answer to a question by KUNA.
The Security Council last Thursday voted unanimously to get Iraq partially out of Chapter VII of the UN Charter, by transferring the files of the missing Kuwaitis and property under the responsibility of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), and by putting an end to the 1999 post of the High-Level Coordinator for those files.
In a related matter, DiCarlo said the UN Special Representative for Iraq Martin Kobler will brief the Council for the last time on July 16 before taking his new UN job in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on August 1.
