The US department said any assets of the three men under US jurisdiction would be frozen, and Americans be prohibited from doing business with them. The NJM has also called on the government to release its member Bahraini Adel Saleh detained on terror charges.

A National Security Agency source told the Bahrain News Agency that the authorities had tracked down some members of the society who have received undercover military training and were linked with terrorist groups and sending funds to their top operatives. The source said Adel was arrested when he was trying to leave for an Asian country where he planned to join a terrorist group. “He planned to take part in its fighting operation. His house was searched following a warrant issued by the Public Prosecution. It’s up to the security agents to search the house in a way they find suitable,” the source told BNA.

Another NJM member, Bahraini Ali Mattar, was arrested on the same charges but was later released on bail. The Public Prosecution extended Adel’s detention for 10 days.

Last year, Bahrain authorities arrested a group for running a sleeper cell which was planning attacks on US targets. Some men were released while two were charged in absentia.
