With several development projects coming up in the Kingdom and new economic cities planned, it has become all the more important for concerned authorities to create an awareness campaign among workers and their employers of the rights they have over each other.
The planned forum under the aegis of Ministry of Labor next month will go a long way in defining the rights of the workers and their employers.
Jeddah is to host the July 5-6 training forum to define new business system. Khaled Abu-Rashed, authorized arbitrator in the Saudi Ministry of Justice and member of International Arbitrates Institution in London, will apprise the 60 participants and human resource experts about new rules and regulations.
“Many Saudi companies have no knowledge of the workers’ rights that make them facing the courts quite often,” said Khaled Abu-Rashed.
There are many new regulations that have started to appear in the Saudi business during the last few years.
“Even after the Kingdom has joined the World Trade Organization, private and government companies seem to be unaware of the new rules. This is the main reason behind holding of such forum,” added Abu-Rashed. The forum is to discuss various issues – commercial, religious, and even social.
“Seven different themes are going to be discussed during the forum. How best to create a good contract that ensures the rights of both the worker and the employer will be discussed in detail,” said Abu-Rashed.
At the time of the contract, many clauses are left untouched and that creates lot of problems for both employer and the worker, he said.
“We need such forums to tell us about our rights,” Muna Baothman, an employee in private company, said.
