The GDN reported on Saturday that traffic was brought to a standstill in the area after police were forced to set up checkpoints and divert traffic.
Some businesses closed early as a precaution and several anti-government protesters have been accused of committing acts of sabotage, while at least one of those arrested was said to have been armed with an iron rod.
"The suspects have been questioned in the presence of their lawyers and remanded in custody," prosecutor Mohammed Salah said yesterday.
He said they resisted security forces who intervened to protect people and property and would be referred to the Lower Criminal Court to stand trial.
The GDN reported on Sunday that another 15 men had been arrested at the same gathering and remanded in custody for 45 days.
