Saudi Arabia rejects and condemns baseless Russian allegations

The ministry said it had reviewed the Russia’s March 4 statement, which includes “serious allegations against Saudi Arabia of supporting terrorism in Syria”.

An official source at the ministry was quoted as saying that the Kingdom “has been keen on addressing the Syrian Crisis according to the international legitimate conventions and through the UN Security Council”.

The source said: “These have been the Kingdom’s efforts which unfortunately have been stalled and aborted by the Veto, giving the Syrian regime a license to commit crimes against its unarmed people in a way that is contrary to human morality and all international laws and norms.

“It should be noted in this regard that the Russian accusations are based on wrong assumptions repeatedly voiced by the media of the Syrian regime and rejected by the international community.

“Such assumptions claim that Al-Qaeda and terrorist armed groups are forming the backbone of the Syrian opposition.

“Such an orientation reflects an explicit support for a regime that commits what amounts to crimes against humanity.

“Therefore, whoever supports such acts might later become subject to ethical, legal and criminal responsibility as a result of such a position.

“Time will respond to the accusation of arming terrorists and will, no doubt, reveal who the terrorists and their supporters are.”
