"Neither the streets, nor disruption of people’s interests, intimidation or terrorism can help achieve demands which can be fulfilled only in parliament, the home where all social spectra in Bahrain are represented," he said, as Bahrain celebrated the start of a new year.

His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday received senior officials, religious leaders, journalists, media figures and citizens.

He hailed the honourable stances which protected Bahrain, preserved its unity and safeguarded it against the plots of those who want no good for it and accepted to be used as daggers of treachery.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all Bahraini citizens who have voiced support and loyalty to the homeland and leadership," he said.

The Premier warned against attempts to cripple the economy, derail investments and subvert the prosperous trade sector, and dismissed such designs as doomed to failure.

He hailed the contribution of citizens and traders, describing them as partners in achievements and key ally in confronting attempts to damage the economy. He affirmed the government’s resolve to continue efforts to promote welfare and improve living standards.

He stressed the need to remove obstacles hampering traders. He reiterated the government’s drive to ensure businessmen all facilities and pass legislation that support traders and consumers.

Businessmen hailed Bahrain’s landmark economic achievements, paying tribute to the Premier for his follow-up and directives.

They credited the government’s economic openness and business-friendly infrastructure for turning Bahrain into a regional trade and investment hub.

The Premier also paid tribute to loyal Bahraini writers and journalists.

"The government thanks you all for rallying to defend justice and expose biased and ill-intentioned media," he said.

He said Bahrain, like the rest of the world, has gone through economic difficulties, but has succeeded in making sure that neither citizens’ living standards nor the quality of services are affected through sound initiatives and subsidies, which, he added, have made the kingdom the most competitive in the region in terms of prices.
