“The country and the high-ranking officials of Oman, particularly Sultan Qaboos and Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi have played an outstanding role in helping resolve regional and international issues and problems, and we value this precious role,” Zarif told Ambassador Saud bin Ahmed bin Khalid Al Barwani, who submitted a copy of his credentials to him.

The Iranian foreign minister said that the two countries have similar views on many regional and international issues, adding that Iranian and Omani officials have great respect for each other.

Tehran-Muscat ties are exemplary in all areas, Zarif added.

He also commented on the fact that Sultan Qaboos was the first head of state to visit Tehran since Iranian President Hassan Rohani was inaugurated in a ceremony in August.

That trip and the mutual respect between the two countries’ senior officials show the two countries’ resolve to strengthen bilateral ties, he said.

The new Omani ambassador conveyed the warm greetings of Sultan Qaboos and Alawi to Zarif, expressing hope that he will be able to take measures to help enhance cooperation between the two countries in various areas, particularly in the trade sector, during his tenure.

The new ambassadors of Mexico, Tunisia, and the Republic of Guinea also submitted copies of their credentials to the Iranian foreign minister on the same day.

During the meetings, Zarif emphasized the necessity of the expansion of bilateral ties.
