Kuwait oil workers postpone strike

Three oil worker unions are not supporting the strike, leaving only the Kuwait Oil Workers Union, which says it will go ahead with plans to stop work unless its demands are met but it agreed on Saturday to postpone any action until March to avoid disruptions when the country celebrates National Day on February 25 and Liberation Day on Feburary 26.
Al Omair said last week measures would be put in place to ensure the OPEC country’s output of 3m barrels per day (bpd) would not be affected in the case of a strike.
"We will not wait for too long, and if the oil trade unions do not call off the strike [threat] by the beginning of next week, we will take all measures to protect our employees and installations," he said, according to AFP.
"We will seek the assistance of all state agencies, including the national guard [and] interior ministry.
“[If the workers do strike], we have employees… to operate refineries and production lines for Kuwait to meet its commitments internally and abroad.”
The minister also insisted the decision to cut bonuses would not be reversed.
