The Kuwaiti minister made the remarks following a meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
He said "What I heard today from secretary Rice regarding an international consensus on a diplomatic settlement to the Iranian nuclear issue was reassuring." He added that he had discussed with Rice several issues, chiefly bilateral relations between the US and Kuwait, Lebanon, Palestinian issue and the Iranian nuclear standoff, especially as the UN Security Council would debate an IAEA report on Iran next week.
He said he had briefed Rice on Kuwait’s support for the Lebanese government, calling for an international support for it in light of the current Lebanese developments.
The Kuwaiti minister also informed his US counterpart about Kuwait’s vision of the Middle East situation particularly following the Gulf consultative summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last week.
Earlier on Tuesday, Al-Sabah met with US Deputy Secretary of Treasury Robert Kimmitt on bilateral relations and ways of promoting bilateral cooperation between both countries.
The meeting was attended by Kuwaiti Ambassador in Washington Sheikh Salem Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah and the Director of the Foreign Minister’s Office Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Al-Nasser Al-Sabah.
