Kuwaiti MPs affirm necessity of joint Arab action for tackling crises

Ali Al-Degbasi, in remarks to KUNA on sidelines of the AIP extraordinary session, said the current meeting at this level was basically aimed at tackling hurdles standing in the face of joint Arab action.

He indicated that the conferees are addressing a host of issues, such as the crisis in Lebanon, repressive Israeli acts against the Palestinians in the occupied territories, the Somali and Darfur crises.

The parliamentarians should look into plans for clearing strains in the ties among the Arab states and bolstering joint Arab action, Al-Degbasi added in the exclusive remarks to Kuwait News Agency, expressing hope that he along with the fellow conferees would reach consensus on recommendations intended to enhance the common action among the Arab countries.

Citing some of the defects in Arab parliamentary action, he alluded in particulary to slow pace in action and implementation of plans and schemes, and expressed hope that such a joint authority would play a role at the level of protecting human rights and freedoms in the Arab world.

His fellow legislator, Abdel Wahed Al-Awadhi, expressed hope that he and fellow Arab lawmakers would be able to reach consensus on ideas and plans for addressing major Arab affairs.

The AIP committee for foreign and political affairs has held a meeting during which recommendations on means of resolving the Lebanese crisis were drawn up, and later submitted to the broad conference.

He affirmed necessity of joint Arab action for resolving the major problems namely Iran’s occupation of the three UAE islands, Greater and Lesser Tonbs and Abu Moussa.

Al-Degbasi and Al-Awadhi, along with another member of the Kuwaiti Parliament, also the Chairman of the AIP, Mohammad Al-Sager, are representing Kuwait at the extraordinary session of the Arab parliament.
