They felt that the Ministry of Culture would play a major role in promoting art, culture and literature in the country by providing the necessary support, infrastructure and facilities.

Dr Rabia Al Kuwari, writer and lecturer at Qatar University, said, "It is a dream come true. We are waiting for important cultural events to take place in Doha. We hope the new ministry would encourage writers and other talented people."

He felt that the Minister of Culture, H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, is capable of realising these aspirations.

"All scattered efforts will be now under one umbrella. The issue of culture has now become a political one, with a huge budget being allocated for this sector," he added.

Suad Al Kuwari, a Qatari poetess, said, "This step was already expected and it is a continuation of the efforts that reflected in the formation of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Heritage. It is a challenge for everyone to prove his/her capability."

Ali Yousuf Al Mahmoud, director of adult education at the Ministry of Education, said the new changes are expected to serve the interests of the nation as well as its citizens.

"Formation of the Ministry of Environment shows Qatar’s position as a developed country looking forward to creating a healthy environment for its people. Reorganisation of the Ministry of Health will play an important role in enhancing health service while a separate ministry for business and trade will have a positive impact in the economic development of the country and international trade affairs."

Dr Hassan Al Sayed, Dean of the Law faculty at Qatar University, said restructuring of the ministries will help implement the wise vision of the Qatari leadership.
