The MKO terrorist organization who had a record of assassinating around 12000 high ranking Iranian officials is supported by Saudi Arabia.
This group initially, did find its place on some Western state’s terror list. Yet a while later, and in a coordinated attempt, was taken off. The roots of the MKO, whom nowadays are referred to in Iran as chiefly the Monafeghin, or the Hypocrites, goes back to the pre-revolutionary era. At first this organization sought to render a hybrid image of Islam and socialism, but later on and as this hybridity’s complications and contradictions surfaced they became radicalized and finally splintered. Among the MKO’s Iraqi achievements was the ingratiating manner in which they served Saddam Hussein’s barbaric suppression of Iraqi Shia population in their Shabaniye uprising.
One of the most terrible of such terrorist attacks by the MKO was the bombing of the Islamic Republic Party’s head quarters. During this terrorist attack the head of Iran’s Supreme Court, Ayatollah Beheshti along with 72 of his companions were killed. Great many of those, were either parliamentarians or held ministerial positions in the cabinet. The terrorist past record of the MKO was so apparent, that it also bought them a place on the US list of terrorist organizations in 1997. This was then backed by an EU listing in 2002 also. The UK however, in 2008, took the MKO off their terror list, which was followed suit by the EU a year after.
In 2012 the US also removed the MKO from a state department’s so-called black list. This is at a time though, when the prominent US journalist, Seymor Hersch revealed in 2012, that the US Joint Special Operations’ Command (JSOC) within the years of 2005-2009 had been busy training the MKO in Nevada deserts. Hersh’s revelations confirm the MKO receiving “intercepting communications, cryptography, weaponry and small unit tactics’ training from the JSOC there.
