Kuwait’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Fahd Al-Awadhi announced yesterday that his country will host a new round of talks between the warring parties in Yemen.
“Kuwait had a role in the recent Yemeni talks by transferring the Houthi group to the Swiss city of Basel, which hosted the talks, and there is another round of Yemeni talks in Kuwait which we hope will conclude with the signing of an agreement to end this crisis,” he said in an interview with Kuwait’s Al-Rai newspaper.
Al-Awadhi pointed out that the date the talks will be held “depends on developments in Yemen” and the parties implementation of what was agreed in the talks in Sweden.
Remarking on the reopening of the Kuwaiti embassy in Damascus, Al-Awadhi said: “The reopening of the embassy is a sovereign right of the state. The closure of the embassy was an Arab decision and so far no final decision has been taken.”
