Nearly 200,000 suspected cases of cholera have been reported in war-torn Yemen in the first nine months of 2020 alone, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The remarkable number, which remains high, marks a 72 per cent drop from 2019.WHO attributed the fall in reported cases to its efforts in supporting water treatment in the country.

The outbreak of the waterborne infectious disease, which can be fatal, was detected in Yemen in 2016. Some 48 people died of the illness in August alone.
