Saudi and Iranian officials have agreed to look for a practical mechanism for a solution in Yemen, Jadeh Iran website reported yesterday.
The site quoted an unnamed Arab diplomatic source as saying that the agreement came during a meeting held at Baghdad Airport between Iranian and Saudi officials on 21 September.
According to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the progress achieved at the level of open discussions between the two countries is much greater than expected, noting that the solution-making process in Yemen “came out of the theoretical framework into the area of practical application, and the concerned parties on the ground are currently being informed of their next steps”.
The source explained that the two countries have also agreed to follow up on bilateral talks during the next stage.
Earlier on Sunday, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud confirmed that a fourth round of negotiations had taken place between his country and Iran; the first of its kind since President Ibrahim Raisi took office. He did not reveal where the meeting was held or who was in attendance.
