The residents of the villages of Samaheej and Shakhura took to the streets, carrying pictures of political prisoners, press tv reported.
The protesters chanted anti-government slogans and slammed Manama for its harsh crackdown on members of the country’s main opposition party, the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society.
Earlier this week, Bahraini security forces raided the house of the opposition party’s Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Hussein al-Dihi.
Bahrain has been witnessing a popular uprising since February 2011. Scores of people have been killed and many more arrested since then. On March 14, 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were deployed to Bahrain to assist the Manama government in its crackdown on peaceful protesters.
The protesters in Bahrain were initially seeking political reforms and a constitutional monarchy before their demands transformed into an outright call for the ouster of the Al Khalifa family following its brutal crackdown on popular protests.
Bahrain has been severely criticized by human rights groups for its harsh crackdown on anti-regime protests.
