‘Holding transparent talks aimed at resolving the regional crises is a necessity and I believe the 11th Government (of President Hassan Rouhani) is determined to establish a logical and rational relation with Saudi Arabia,’ said Mohammad Sadeq Sediqian in an interview with the IRNA Political Desk.
Seqiqian said that all the same if we wish to view the issue rationally, coming to the throne of King Salman in Saudi Arabia is not the beginning of a new chapter of eye catching developments in the foreign policy the oil rich Persian Gulf monarchy.
The head of the Arab Center on Iranian Research said that the record of deaths of Saudi kings in the course of the past half century shows that the country’s conservative political system whose interests are intermingled with those of such powers as the United States keeps on continuing its past policies.
He said, for example, it is a remote possibility that the Saudi oil production will be decreased, adding: At least throughout the next two or three years the Saudi foreign policy will not be the scene of any tangible changes.
The Middle East affairs analyst said that the new leading political team in Saudi Arabia, including the Crown Prince Muqrin Bin Abdul Aziz and Crown Prince II Muhammad Bin Nayef are both close to the extremist Saudi religious institutes.
‘There will be no development in favor of the regional people with coming to power of the new political team in Saudi Arabia, unless the international pressure or foreign developments will dictate it on the Saudi rulers,’ he said.
Sediqian predicted further improvement of Riyadh-Ankara ties due to proximity between King Salman and the extremist religious centers, but lowering the level of the Riyadh-Cairo ties.
Former Saudi king Abdullah Abdul Aziz died on Friday morning in a hospital in Riyadh after about a month of being in bed there.
Ever since Dec 31 when King Abdullah was hospitalized Malik Salman was practically leading Saudi Arabia.
Simultaneously with being the crown prince of the Saudi monarchy, King Salman had served since 2012 as the oil rich kingdom’s defense minister.
