The paroled prisoners were among the eighth and ninth batches returned to the Kingdom last year.

They were released after security authorities had questioned them about their presence in hot spots all over the world and documented their testimonies, in preparation to stand trial in the next few days.

In return for their release, the authorities required the prisoners’ family members to sign undertakings that they will hand them over to the authorities once they are summoned back.

The authorities indicated that each batch, comprising 16 Saudis, were all kept in custody until the completion of interrogations. Then they had been moved to rehabilitation centers.

In these centers, they were coached by a group of scholars who taught them about genuine Islamic principles that advocate tolerance and moderation. That helped in removing misconceptions they had in their minds about the concept of Jihad in Islam.
One source said that the move to release the prisoners should silence those who accuse the Kingdom of abusing human rights.

The source added that the authorities have enrolled 14 other Guantanamo Saudis of the 10th batch in an intensive rehabilitative program.

Security authorities have so far received 11 batches, comprising 120 returnees. Three Saudis have died while in custody in Guantanamo.

Adel Al-Jubair, the Kingdom’s Ambassador to Washington, had said the rehabilitated returnees don’t constitute any security threat to the Kingdom.
