In a statement on the last day of 2007-08 academic year on Thursday, he said, "As the academic year comes to a close, I want to extend my sincere thanks to the ADEC team – zone personnel, principals, assistant principals, teachers and staff – for your hard work and dedication in supporting the education system in Abu Dhabi. Your efforts are recognised and greatly appreciated.

Al Khaili said, “as you may be aware, the council is taking over the responsibility for the education sector in Abu Dhabi. In partnership with other education stakeholders in the emirate, we are building an educational system that supports our youth and our country’s continued growth as a leading contributor to the educational and business communities.

"Achieving our vision will take time and planning the implementation is an immediate priority."

Education reforms in Abu Dhabi are intended to create a high quality, comprehensive system that will meet international standards of education. This will prepare students for the future labour market and enable them to participate in the country’s economic development, Dr Al Khaili said.

Education reforms in the emirate are being planned in close coordination with the Ministry of Education as part of the decentralisation process outlined in the federal government’s initiatives in the field. "Moreover, the reforms are designed to help achieve the Abu Dhabi government’s vision as outlined in 2007-08 policy and approved by the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to improve the education results to meet the international standards," added Dr Al Khaili.
