MP and head of the committee, Mohammed Khalid, said the ‘Panel for supporting former Bahraini detainees in Guantanamo Bay,’ will seek justice for the former detainees and enable their integration into society.
There were six Bahraini detainees in Guantanamo, and Juma Al Dossari, the last prisoner, was released in 2007 but went to Saudi Arabia because he had dual citizenship.
Khalid said Al Dossari was more fortunate than the other prisoners because Saudi authorities helped in his rehabilitation.
Shaikh Salman Al Khalifa doesn’t need assistance as he is from the royal family, while the younger Salah Al Baloushi will not have trouble to start a new life. The plight of other former prisoners like Adel Kamil and Isa Al Murbati was sad, he said. "Kamil sold his dream home to pay his accumulated loans and Al Murbati is struggling to keep his perfume business going."
"The Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Khalid Al Khalifa promised to offer a comprehensive rehabilitation for the former detainees but nothing has happened till date," he said.
